CAIRO - 16 October 2023: The Egyptian National Security Council was in 2014 in accordance with Article 205 of the Egyptian Constitution. Below are basic information about the council:

 

The National Security Council is headed by the President. Its members are the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Ministers of Defense, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Justice, Health, Communications, and Education. The Chief of General Intelligence and the Chairman of the Defense and National Security Committee of the House of Representatives are also members.

 

According to the law, the Council has the following powers:

 

* Approval of strategies to achieve the country’s security after preparing them in agreement with the relevant authorities in the country.

* Approval of specialized political objectives in all fields for various state ministries.

* Approval of plans to develop the capabilities of the comprehensive forces of the state presented by the government.

* Making decisions protecting the state’s identity, sovereignty, independence, and regional and international standing.

* Reviewing reports of ministers and state specialists on identifying sources of hostilities, risks and threats.

* Confronting internal hostilities, disasters, and national crises of all kinds, and taking the necessary measures to contain them and remove their effects.

* Directing foreign policies and international cooperation in areas of interest to Egyptian national security.

* Any other topics that the President deems appropriate to present to the Council.
