CAIRO – 10 October 2023:   Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry urged Palestinians and Israelis to give precedence to de-escalating the explosive situation in Gaza to prevent further bloodshed among innocent civilians from both sides.

During phone calls with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell and Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira on Wednesday, Shoukry also warned about the grave consequences if ongoing armed confrontations continue.

These confrontations might plunge the area into a vicious cycle of violence, which would in turn have its implications on regional stability, Shoukry warned.

He emphasized the need to coordinate regional as well as international efforts to urge the conflict parties to put an immediate stop to violence and armed confrontations as the top priority for the time being, and ensure the protection of civilians, according to Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zied.

Shoukry also called for driving coordination efforts to ensure the people of Palestine regular access to humanitarian assistance and services.

He also posted the senior EU and diplomats on Cairo's de-escalation efforts, asserting the need to focus on the root causes of the crisis, namely continued occupation by Israel of Palestinian territories and lack a political horizon for the conflict, Abu Zied noted.
