CAIRO - 8 October 2023: Charles Michel, President of the European Council, said Europe is keen to consult with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in order to end violence and escalating Palestinian-Israeli tension that foreshadows serious consequences.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed with Michel in a phone call on Sunday the Israeli-Palestinian developments, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement.

In the phone call, Sisi stressed the need to end the current ongoing escalation, calling for all parties to exercise restraint amid the consequences of this escalation on the life of civilians and regional security and stability.

Sisi also briefed Michel on the ongoing Egyptian efforts along with regional and international parties in order to unify efforts and spare the region further instability and turbulence.

This should lead to pushing forward comprehensive and fair peace efforts on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with the international law and related international legitimacy resolutions, Sisi added.

Israeli towns continue to be engulfed in conflict as both Israel and Hamas fighters exchange fire.

This comes a day after Palestinian Hamas fighters breached the heavily fortified border from Gaza and entered nearby settlements, resulting in casualties and the capture of soldiers and civilians in an unprecedented attack.

According to various local media outlets, the death toll for Israelis has reached 700, while the injured totaled around 2,000.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, vowing severe retaliation, has officially declared the country to be at war.

He has also promised to demolish Hamas sites, urging Palestinians to leave Gaza despite the challenges they face in doing so.

Gaza health authorities have also reported hundreds of fatalities, as Israeli airstrikes persist without respite.

Israel's military claims to have eliminated over 400 Hamas gunmen as ongoing battles aim to remove militants from eight settlements within Israel.

Israeli residents residing near the border have been given a 24-hour notice to evacuate their homes.

The military has issued a stern warning that any terrorists or commanders found in houses will be targeted by Israeli forces.
