CAIRO – 6 October 2023: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated Egyptian President Sisi on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the victories of the October War

President Abbas extended congratulations through a telegram on behalf of the state and people of Palestine, hoping that this occasion would bring more progress and prosperity to the Egyptian people, said a statement from the Palestinian embassy in Cairo.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi said on Wednesday that “anyone who had lived through the period between 1967 and 1973 that the Egyptians have endured, would have known very well that Egypt did not only achieve victory in the war but also ‘took a leap forward’’.”

During the Armed Forces' cultural symposium to celebrate the October war, Sisi said that the Armed Forces were able to exceed the difference of strength, fear, and previous defeat with the October war.

“The victory achieved by the Egyptian army at that time was impossible for anyone to achieve, except the Egyptians” Sisi added.

President Sisi then honored a number of October War ‘heroes’ during the symposium that was held to celebrate the 1973 war.
