Egyptian politicians, parties slam European Parliament statements

CAIRO – 6 October 2023: Egyptian politicians and parties have strongly slammed the recent European Parliament statement regarding the human rights statues in Egypt ahead of the awaiting presidential election, saying that ‘this kind of statements considered to be “misleading”, aside that it is ‘straight interference in Egypt’s internal affairs.

Secretary of the Senate Committee on Human Rights and Social Solidarity, Rasha Ishaq, strongly rejected the European Parliament’s statement and its recent intervention in Egyptian affairs.

Ishaq also said that the European Parliament’s statement contained a number of fallacies that are completely contrary to the reality, explaining that the Egyptian state will not accept anyone as its guardian when it comes to ‘internal affairs’.

She added that the external reports issued regarding the human rights situation in Egypt are completely rejected and non-binding, explaining that the European Parliament has long been accustomed to presenting international impressions without practical studies.

MP Sayed Shams El-Din, described the European Parliament’s recent statement as “misleading and against reason and logic,” stressing that it constitutes ‘straight interference in Egypt’s internal affairs.

He pointed out that the European Parliament's statement called for free, fair and credible elections, commenting: "What's new about this point? The Egyptian political leadership itself confirms this, and we are facing full judicial supervision, and facing diverse candidates with different orientations and ideologies."

MP Riyad Abdel Sattar, slammed the European Parliament’s statement and its interference in the Egyptian affairs.

He said that it is not permissible to violate the rights of the Egyptian state and its sovereignty.

MP Sami Souss, rejected the European Parliament’s decision regarding the situation in Egypt, explaining that it is not the first of its kind, and it amounts to blatant interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state in violation of the United Nations charters, which is not the case. It can be overlooked or overlooked, as it is completely unacceptable.

Egypt’s Conference Party also issued a statement saying that the procedures for the Egyptian presidential elections are fair and transparent, and the National Elections Authority stands on one space.

The Arab Parliament also strongly condemned the European Parliament's statement on the Egyptian presidential elections, expressing its complete rejection of all forms of interference by the European Parliament in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

The statement also affirmed the Parliament’s full solidarity with Egypt against any interference that carries slander and misleading lies that are not based on any facts or correct information.

In a statement, the Arab Parliament called on the European Parliament to stop this blatant interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries, as it represents a blatant violation of the principles of the United Nations and all international norms and laws that emphasize the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.
