CAIRO - 4 October 2023: The National Electoral Commission is set to begin receiving nomination papers for the 2024 presidential elections starting tomorrow, Thursday, and continuing daily until October 14th, including official holidays. The working hours for submission will be from 9 AM to 5 PM, with the last day for submission as the exception.

Nomination forms can be obtained within a designated area at the commission's headquarters, fully equipped with the necessary facilities. Candidates or their legal representatives must submit their nomination requests using the provided form. Along with the request, several documents are required, including the endorsement forms from members of the House of Representatives or endorsements from citizens supporting the candidate.

Applicants are also expected to provide their birth certificates or official extracts, an official copy of their educational qualifications, a declaration confirming that they and their parents or spouse are Egyptian citizens without holding citizenship from another country, a criminal record certificate, a certificate confirming military service completion or exemption as per the law, a financial disclosure statement as specified in Law No. 62 of 1975 regarding ill-gotten gains, a medical report from one of the specified hospitals, such as Nasser Institute, Sheikh Zayed Hospital, or the New Administrative Capital, and a statement confirming that they have not been previously convicted of a crime affecting honor or integrity, even if their conviction has been expunged.

In addition, candidates must provide a receipt confirming the payment of twenty thousand Egyptian pounds to the National Electoral Commission's treasury as security.

This amount will be refunded to them after the election results are announced, minus expenses related to campaign material publication and poster removal as necessary. Lastly, candidates must submit a statement indicating their chosen registered domicile for notification purposes regarding committee-related activities.

The National Electoral Commission has set October 16th and 17th for the announcement and publication of the preliminary list of candidate names and their endorsers in the official newspaper. November 9th is the date when the final list of candidates, along with their election symbols, will be declared and published in the official newspaper. Campaigning for the election will officially commence on November 9th.

The acceptance of nomination papers marks a significant step in Egypt's democratic process, as the country prepares for the upcoming presidential elections in 2024.
