Egypt’s interior Minister follows up on Ismailia security directorate fire, orders investigating causes

CAIRO – 2 October 2023:  Egypt’s Minister of interior Mahmoud Tawfik has arrived at the Ismailia security directorate headquarter to follow up with the updates regarding the huge fire that erupted early on Monday, leaving up to 26 injuries that have been hospitalized, as other 12 people received needed health care and were discharged.

Tawfik directed forming a committee of consultants to determine the causes of the fire, in addition to reviewing the structural safety of the building to restore its efficiency as soon as possible.

The Minister also inspected the site and directed that all aspects of care be provided to the injured until their complete recovery.

Egypt’s Civil protection forces managed to contain the fire, as the Health Ministry announced that all hospitals at Ismailia governorate were placed at high alert to receive those injured in the fire that broke out at Ismailia security directorate early Monday.

Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghafar said 50 ambulances rushed to the scene of the fire upon receiving a report on its outbreak, asserting that all emergency medicine and blood types are available at the hospitals.

Abdel Ghafar pointed out that 12 injured people received medical care at the site, while 26 cases were moved to the medical complex of Ismailia.

As many as 24 people suffered suffocation, while two people sustained burn injuries, he said, adding that 7 cases were dismissed from hospital after improvement of their conditions.
