Egypt’s shops, restaurants to close 1 hour earlier as winter operating times start Friday

CAIRO – 28 September 2023: Shops, malls, restaurants, cafes, bazaars and workshops will close an hour earlier as winter operation hours will come into force starting Friday.

As per the new times, shops and malls will operate from 7 AM everyday until 10 PM. However, on the weekends, they will operate for an additional hour to close a 11 PM.

Cafes, restaurants and bazaars, including those found in malls, will operate from 5 AM to 12 AM, while the takeout and delivery services will be available throughout the day.

Workshops inside populated areas will be allowed to open from 8 AM to 6 PM, while those on highways and in fuel stations and those providing urgent services to citizens are excluded from the decision.

Supermarkets and bakeries are not subject to time restrictions.

Operating hours for shops available in coastal cities can be adjusted through a decision by the minister of local development based on the governors’ proposals.

Violators of the decisions are subject to penalties ranging from a written warning and closure of their shops for a month.
