Discussed: How did presidential initiatives support healths of Egyptians?

CAIRO - 26 September 2023: Providing a decent life for all Egyptians at all levels is what President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi sought over the course of nine years of rule, which is translated in the presidential initiatives and their success over the previous years to support the health of citizens and have positive impact on health planning.
 
At the forefront of these efforts come the initiatives targeting the improvement of Egyptians' health.
 
Among these initiatives are: 
 
- The “100 Million Healthy Lives” initiative to eliminate Hepatitis C.
 
- The initiative to support women’s health to detect tumors.
 
- The initiative to screen those about to get married.
 
- The presidential initiatives to support the health of the mother, fetus, newborn children, school students, and detect genetic diseases and health care for the elderly.
 
The health sector has witnessed unprecedented development, including the development of the Nasser Institute into an integrated medical city, the establishment of a new central laboratory complex in accordance with the highest international standards, and the development of a number of major hospitals, including Umm al-Masryeen, Heliopolis, and Coptic Hospitals.
 
The sector also seen plans to establish a new heart institute meeting the international standards, to enhance the role of the National Heart Institute, which is one of the largest specialized medical edifices serving heart patients, in addition to establishing a new and integrated complex for mental health, addiction treatment, and geriatric medicine.
 
End waiting lists
 
The “Ending Waiting Lists” initiative to alleviate the suffering of those who are unable to perform urgent and critical surgeries with the highest quality and in the fastest possible time comes at the top of the initiatives.
 
The initiative includes heart surgeries, orthopedics, ophthalmia, tumors, cerebral catheters, cardiac catheterization, brain and nerves, kidney transplantation, liver transplantation, and cochlear implantation, and it is a completely free-of-charge initiative.
 
 
“100 Million Healthy Lives” Initiative
 
Since the launch of the initiative in September 2021 until today, 6 million 777 thousand and 194 citizens have been examined, as part of President Sisi’s initiative, to examine and treat chronic diseases and early detection of kidney disease, under the slogan “100 Million Healthy Lives.”
 
The initiative operates through 3,601 primary care units nationwide, and aims at early diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases and provides high-quality health services to all citizens in the age group over 40 years, in addition to the group of young people over the age of 18 who have a medical history related to chronic diseases. 
 
The initiative provides tests to measure blood pressure, blood sugar levels (random and cumulative), blood lipids, kidney tests, and body mass index, in addition to providing awareness services on risk factors for chronic diseases.
 
 
Presidential initiative to support women's health
 
The presidential initiative to support Egyptian women’s health was launched in July 2019, with the aim of providing early detection of breast tumors, non-communicable diseases and reproductive health services for women, as well as providing treatment with the latest international treatment protocols for free.
 
The cost of the initiative reached 602.9 million pounds, where 24.6 million women were examined, starting at the age of 18 years.
 
 
Health initiatives for child care
 
In terms of health initiatives to care for children aged above two years, school students, and adults, the Presidential Initiative for Treating Spinal Muscular Atrophy patients was launched in July 2021, with the aim of providing treatment for children with muscular dystrophy, as the cost of treatment per child reaches $2.1 million.
 
A total of 12.3 thousand cases were received in clinics, and designated to receive children with muscular dystrophy, in addition to 36 children with spinal muscular atrophy being injected with gene therapy.
 
The initiatives also included the launch of the presidential initiative for early detection of anemia, obesity, and dwarfism in February 2019.
 
In addition, the presidential initiative to combat the causes of weakness and loss of vision was launched in January 2019, with a total funding of one billion pounds, and 270,000 medical glasses were provided, in addition to performing 43,000 cataract surgeries in the eyes.
 
As part of the President’s initiative for early detection and treatment of hearing loss in newborns, since its launch in September 2019 until now, hearing screening services have been provided to 4 million and 851 thousand children.
 
Comprehensive health insurance system
 
The General Health Care Authority provided more than 10.5 million family medicine services through the family medicine units and centers affiliated with the Health Care Authority in the governorates implementing the comprehensive health insurance system, which are: (Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai).
 
Family medicine units and centers are the beneficiary's first gateway to obtaining primary health care services in accordance with the latest approved treatment guidelines and protocols.
 
The new comprehensive health insurance system enhances the concept of family medicine, as family medicine units and centers cover 80 percent of an individual’s health needs, in accordance with the latest global health systems.
