CAIRO – 19 September 2023: Egypt is looking forward to discussing all possible ways and efforts on the path to reviving the peace process in the Middle East, said Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry during his participation in the ministerial meeting on reviving the peace process in the Middle East, on the sidelines of the High-level Meetings of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

 

He added that Egypt is also keen to motivate the parties concerned to reach a just and lasting peace, stressing that just peace remains the only applicable basis for implementing all endeavors consolidating integration, cooperation and coexistence in the Middle East region, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

 

The Foreign Minister affirmed Egypt’s firm support for efforts to bring peace to the region, which was translated into actions by firstly signing the first Arab peace treaty in 1979, a step that was followed by many regional and international endeavors international ones like the Oslo Accords in 1993, and the Arab Peace Initiative in 2002, which called for the withdrawal of Israel troops from all Arab territories occupied since 1967, in In exchange for achieving peace and coexistence among the peoples of the region.

 

Shoukry also appreciated efforts taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the League of Arab States and the European Union to revive the Arab Peace Initiative.

 

Egypt, along with Jordan, supports the Arab/European endeavor to achieving a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, the statement added.

 

Shoukry will traveled to New York to participate in the High-level Meetings of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The new session of the General Assembly will he held under the title “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all.”
