CAIRO – 18 September 2023: Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expats Soha Guendi stated in a phone-in Sunday that 87 had got killed in Libya because of Storm Daniel, and that 291 were officially missing in Derna and Tobruk.

 

The minister confirmed that the bodies of the dead had been retrieved by Egypt in collaboration with Libyan authorities, and that the total number of reports by families that had lost contact with relatives in Libya amounted to 400.

 

The minister noted that the official number of Egyptian expats to Libya was 350,000, with 200,000 being in the East, while the rest was in the West. She also highlighted that Egypt had set up two field hospitals in Matrouh's Saloum in addition to turning a Mistral (helicopter carrier) into a field hospital on Libyan shores.
