CAIRO - 17 September 2023: Mohamed Shawki Ayad, Egypt’s new attorney-general has been sworn in before President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday. 

 

Ayad, former head of the Alexandria court of appeals, succeeds Hamada El-Sawi, who had served in the post since September 2019. Ayad was also a member of the technical office of the Cairo Court of Appeal.

 

The president-appointed attorney-general was born on May 9, 1957 in Gharbia Governorate, the Delta, and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Law in 1979 from Mansoura University.

 

After graduation, Ayad appointed in the Public Prosecution Office on June 1, 1980. On September 28, 1985, he became Deputy Attorney General.

 

He was appointed as a judge in a court of first instance on October 1, 1989, and was promoted until he assumed the post as the court president on September 2, 1993.

 

On August 18, 2020, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a presidential decree, delegating him to work as an assistant to the Minister of Justice for judicial inspection affairs. He also was also on secondment to the UAE.
