Moroccan Amb. appreciates Egypt's solidarity after deadly earthquake hit Al Haouz

CAIRO - 9 September 2023: Ambassador Ahmed Al-Tazi, Moroccan Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the League of Arab States, appreciated the solidarity of Egypt, its leadership, government and people, with Morocco following the earthquake that struck the North African state and killed hundreds.

The Moroccan ambassador also expressed his thanks to Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, for his sympathy and solidarity with the Kingdom of Morocco.

Ambassador Al-Tazi said, in a statement today: “I pray to God to accept the victims with good acceptance and make them among the people of Paradise, and to inspire their families with beautiful patience. I also pray to the Creator, the Almighty, to speed up the recovery of the injured, alleviate their suffering, and compensate everyone who lost a home or shop.”  

He added that all medical, administrative and security interests have been harnessed to provide urgent assistance to the injured and the residents of the area, and that the concerned authorities are in the process of developing an urgent relief program to confront and overcome the damage to people's property and infrastructure, including roads, paths and other public facilities.

The Kingdom of Morocco experienced a catastrophe and a terrifying night, as it was struck by an earthquake measuring 7 degrees on the Richter scale.
Egypt expressed its sincere condolences to the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco for the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck a number of Moroccan regions and cities Friday evening, resulting in hundreds of victims and injured, and material losses, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.

Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb extended his deepest condolences to Morocco's King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people after a powerful earthquake hit a number of provinces and cities in the kingdom Friday night.

In a statement on Saturday, Al Azhar said it is offering full solidarity with Morocco and sympathy with the families of the victims and injured and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.
Moroccan television announced that the number of victims of the devastating earthquake that struck the Kingdom had risen to 830 dead and at least 672 injured.

The quake struck in Morocco’s High Atlas mountain range shortly after 11 p.m. local time at the relatively shallow depth of 18.5 kilometers (11.4 miles), USGS said, with the epicenter located about 72 kilometers (44.7 miles) southwest of Marrakech, a city of some 840,000 people and a popular tourist destination, according to CNN.
