CAIRO – 21 August 2023: The Gulf of Suez may experience large waves and strong wind on Monday, disrupting ship navigation, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) says.

In the Mediterranean, waves may rise up to 1.5 meters, while in the Red Sea can see higher waves of up to 2.5 meters.

The Gulf of Suez will experience winds at speeds ranging from 50 to 65 km per second with 2.5-3.5-meter waves.

The EMA also expects light rain and possible thunder on Monday and Tuesday in parts of South Sinai and the Red Sea mountains.

In Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt and the North Coast, weather will tend to be hot and humid during daytime this week, while South Sinai and southern Egypt will continue to see much hotter weather.

While weather will improve in northern Egypt, reaching 33-34 for the highs in Cairo, direct exposure to sun remains inadvisable as it makes weather feel much hotter.

Average apparent temperatures based on the EMA expectations until Saturday:

- Cairo and Lower Egypt – Highs: 36

- Northern coasts – Highs: 34

- South Sinai – Highs: 43

- Northern Upper Egypt – Highs: 39

- Southern Upper Egypt – Highs: 45
