CAIRO – 17 August 2023: Are you planning to spend your holiday in South Sinai this weekend? be prepared for scorching heat and possible showers with thunder.

On Friday and Saturday, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects light to moderate rain with thunder in South Sinai as well as the Red Sea mountains.

Torrential rain can also hit parts of St Catherine during the weekend.

Moreover, the EMA expects possible disruption in sea traffic in the Gulf of Suez during the weekend due to strong wind (50-60 km/hour) and as waves can rise to 2.5-3 meters.

Unsurprisingly, Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt and the northern coast will experience hot and humid weather during daytime this week, while South Sinai and southern Egypt will continue to suffer from extremely hot weather.

At night, northern Egypt and northern Upper Egypt will see moderate yet humid weather, while South Sinai and southern Egypt will have warm nights.

Clouds will be obvious over Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt and the North Coast, ensuring a relief from hot weather in these areas, the EMA says.

Average apparent temperatures based on the EMA expectations this week:

- Cairo and Lower Egypt – Highs: 36

- Northern coasts – Highs: 34

- South Sinai – Highs: 43

- Northern Upper Egypt – Highs: 39

- Southern Upper Egypt – Highs: 45
