CAIRO – 6 August 2023: Those who throw trash on the Ring Road would be referred to the military prosecution, announced Minister of Transportation Kamel El Wazir in a statement on Sunday.

 

The decision was issued in a bid to avoid possible road accidents and fulfill the health requirements of the population.

 

On May 31, 2023, nine people were killed and four were injured as a microbus crashed and caught fire on the Middle Ring Road in 6th of October City in northern Egypt’s Giza governorate.

 

The microbus caught fire after being rear-ended by a truck, according to reports. The truck driver fled the scene after the crash and security authorities are intensifying its efforts to arrest him.

 

Egypt saw a decline in injuries due to road accidents by 9.3 percent in 2021 compared to 2020. However, the number of deaths due to road accidents in the country rose by 15.2 percent to 7,101, according to the official statistical agency (CAPMAS).
