CAIRO -25 June 2023: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Egypt for honoring him with the “Order of the Nile,” the highest civilian award in Egypt.

 

“It is with great humility that I accept the 'Order of the Nile.’ I thank the Government and people of Egypt for this honour. It indicates the warmth and affection they have towards India and the people of our nation,” he tweeted.

 

 

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi decorated Prime Minister Modi with the "Order of the Nile," after both leaders signed a joint declaration to elevate relations to the level of strategic partnership. In that context, they conferred over boosting the exchange of strategic goods, and trade exchange in general, as well as enlarging Indian investments in Egypt.

 

It is noted that the visit is the first by an Indian chief of state in nearly two decades, and marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

 

Similarly, Sisi and Modi discussed reinforcing cooperation in the sectors of ICT, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, tertiary education, renewable energy, green hydrogen, as well as tourism and culture by increasing the number of direct flights between Cairo and New Delhi.

 

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Cairo on Saturday in the first visit by an Indian premier in more than two decades.

 

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli received Modi, who is making the visit to Egypt as per the invitation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, at Cairo International Airport.

 

Modi’s delegation includes the Indian foreign minister, national security advisor and senior officials from the Cabinet and the Indian foreign ministry, a statement by the Egyptian Cabinet read.
