CAIRO – 24 June 2023: Egypt's Top Islamic Sunni Institution of Al Azhar condemned tearing and burning copies of the Noble Quran by Israeli settlers in southern Nablus, Palestine, Al Azhar said in a statement on Saturday.

Al-Azhar also voiced its condemnation and rejection to the assault on innocent Palestinians in ‎several Palestinian villages in the West Bank, and the looting of their properties.

“It is not ‎surprising that these crimes are committed by this brutal colonial entity,” the statement read.

‎ ‎

“Al-Azhar stresses that the usurping Zionists’ continued crimes in full view of the ‎international community, while the whole world is incapable of deterring them, exposing their ‎crimes and bloody conduct, or stopping them is unjustified complicity, a crime against ‎humanity, and a flagrant violation of the international law, norms and covenants,” the statement added.

“These ‎charters stipulate respecting religious sanctities and guarantee the freedom of worship.‎

Al-Azhar also stresses that it is due time to take a serious and unified Arab and Muslim ‎stance towards this terrorist entity that has been committing the most heinous crimes ‎against our Palestinian brothers. It is also due time to take swift and binding measures to ‎establish an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Ash-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its ‎capital.," the statement continued.
