CAIRO - 19 June 2023: Vice-president of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Malik Agar expressed the Sovereignty Council members’ gratitude to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for Egypt’s role in helping the Sudanese during their country’s crisis.

In an interview with Egyptian T.V. “Cairo News” channel, Agar said: “We welcome all initiatives that aim to stop the war in Sudan, but we are examining and checking these initiatives, to find out which initiatives respect and achieve the sovereignty of the Sudanese state and [..] to avoid having the previous situation that produced this war. We are working to reach a new situation for building the Sudanese state.”

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Agar on Sunday in Cairo, asserting that Egypt will always remain a supporter for Sudan especially at the current critical times facing the country, highlighting the historic ties binding the two peoples and issues of common interest.

During the meeting, Sisi reiterated the need for permanently ceasing fire and starting an all-out peaceful dialogue that achieves the will of the Sudanese people to enjoy security, stability and development, which he viewed as the priorities that all parties should work on implementing them.

Sisi also affirmed that Egypt was exerting its utmost efforts to reach ceasefire, stem bloodshed and push forward the peaceful track, reiterating Egypt's full backing to Sudan's unity and territorial integrity.

Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said Sisi was briefed during his meeting with Agar on the latest developments in Sudan.

Agar, for his part, explained current efforts to reach a settlement in a way that preserves the State's unity, in addition to means of delivering the humanitarian and relief aid to the people afflicted with the conflict.

The Sudanese official, for his part, praised Egypt's honest and strenuous efforts to maintain peace and security in Sudan in light of current critical conditions, shedding light on Egypt's hosting the Sudanese people in their second homeland.

Agar also appreciated Egypt's influential role in the region and the whole African continent

A supply ship belonging to the Egyptian Armed Forces, arrived at Port Sudan on Saturday carrying “hundreds of tons” of relief aid to the Sudanese people upon the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Egypt has opened its doors for Sudanese refugees and nationals of other countries since the clashes broke out in April between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Earlier in June, President Sisi said Egypt has received about 200,000 Sudanese refugees over the past two months. This makes Egypt the largest host of Sudanese refugees, according to UN figures.

Egypt has also delivered medical and relief aid on the Egyptian-Sudanese borders to those in need, especially through the Egyptian Red Crescent.
