CAIRO – 15 June 2023: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the Tahya Misr multipurpose terminal at the Alexandria Port on Thursday and raised the Egyptian flag on the Wadi E-Molok vessel in Alexandria.

President Sisi said that the development of maritime ports puts the country on the map of competition and helps it to benefit from its capabilities and location to be “a center for world trade.”

He added that many criticize some of the development projects but “If it [the country] does not have a suitable infrastructure, then you are not founding a strong future."

“Much more extensive efforts should be exerted and more money is needed for the country to successfully make use of its position,” he said.

President Sisi added that Africa's infrastructure needs thousands of billions of dollars to achieve stability for its countries and for people to live properly and stop fighting. “The infrastructure is essential for the African continent and its stability,” he stressed.

Sisi also said that LE 2 trillion was allocated to the Ministry of Transportation, a sum much greater than the money that had been allocated over the past 30 years. “We will continue building the state despite the challenges,” the president continued.

President Sisi further noted that the industrial logistical zone in Alexandria port will receive containers from large industrial countries. On yacht tourism, President Sisi stated that Egypt has no share in some 500,000 yachts in the Red Sea.

The Egyptian Ministry of Transport is implementing 80 projects in ports at a cost of LE 129 billion, with the participation of 100 companies from the private sector.

The projects that have been implemented include establishing berths with a length of 18 km in the port of Sokhna, the establishment of the Tahya Misr station (berths 55-62) with a length of 2.5 km at the Alexandria Port, and the construction of Berth 85/3 in Alexandria Port.

As for the ongoing projects, berths and stations are being constructed with a length of 35 km, bringing the total length of the berths to 73 km and breakwaters to a length of 15 km. This is in addition to deepening navigational passages within the plan to develop all Egyptian seaports to make Egypt a global center for trade and logistics.

Also, a multi-purpose station (berth 100) was established in Dekheila Port by establishing berths with a length of 1.8 km, besides constructing a clean dry port in Dekheila with berths with a length of 1.16 km.

Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir said that LE 9 billion is the cost of establishing the Tahya Misr multi-purpose station in Alexandria, adding “We did not borrow a penny,” for the establishment.

He added that a maritime "Arab Trade Line" with Jordan and Iraq has also been established for exports to Europe and the U.S.
