Egyptian president, Iraqi PM hold talks on security, economic cooperation

CAIRO – 13 June 2023: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Tuesday at Al Itihadiyah Presidential Palace Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia' Al Sudani as they conferred over expanding cooperation, particularly in the realms of security, trade exchange, investment, and infrastructure development.

 

The two leaders equally exchanged views on Arab and regional issues of mutual concern, reiterating the salience of reinforcing joint Arab work in the face of various challenges.

In a similar context, President Sisi stressed Egypt's fixed backing to the security and stability of Iraq as well as keenness on bolstering collaboration on both the bilateral level and the trilateral level with Jordan.

On his side, the Iraqi prime minister expressed eagerness for building upon the outcomes of his last visit to Cairo in March, saying that the increase of visit exchange between the two countries reflect the expansion of relations.

Sudani added that Iraq wanted to benefit from Egyptian capabilities and competencies in various fields, especially in light of the Egyptian starring role in enhancing the mechanisms of Arab joint work to handle regional crises.

The Iraqi prime minister was heading a delegation that consists of the ministers of foreign affairs, planning, housing, trade, and electricity as well as the governor of the Iraqi central bank. The meeting was also attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, and a number of Egyptian ministers.
