Egypt, Serbia hold new round of political consultations, discuss boosting trade exchange

CAIRO – 8 June 2023: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted Monday a new round of political consultations with Serbia as both sides discussed bolstering existing political, economic, and cultural cooperation both on the bilateral level and in the framework of international organizations.

The talks were carried out by officials from both countries led by Assistant to the Minister for European Affairs Ambassador Ehab Nasr and Serbian Assistant Minister for Bilateral Cooperation Ambassador Vladimir Maric, as inidcated by a ministry's press statement released Wednesday.

 

Ambassador Nasr commended the resumption of direct flights between Belgrade and Cairo in May after a three-year hiatus caused by COVID-19 pandemic. Those were added to the direct flights to Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh.

 

The two sides also agreed on intensifying communication between the business communities in both countries building upon the increase of Egyptian fertilizer and ammonia exports to Serbia, as well as wheat, corn, and food oil imports from the European state.

 

The consultations also covered the updates of Western Balkans, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. In that regard, Ambassador Maric stressed his country's eagerness for learning about Egypt's stance on regional issues, and expressed appreciation for its role in maintaining security and stability in the region.
