Egypt, FAO talk to put water issues on Global Climate Action Agenda

CAIRO – 6 June 2023: Egypt and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are coordinating to put water issues on the Global Climate Action agenda through various international events.

 

This came during a meeting with the Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Swailem, and the Special Representative of the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Daniel Gustafson, and the Director-General Assistant and Regional Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization for the Near East and North Africa, Abdel Hakim Al-Waer, and FAO Representative in Egypt, Nasr El-Din Haj Al-Amin in Cairo, on Monday.

 

The Minister discussed Egypt's efforts during the COP 27 that was held in Sharm El Sheikh last year when the country launched, for the first time in the history of the COP conferences,  an initiative to adapt to climate change impacts in water sector.

 

The Minister of Irrigation called on the FAO to support the initiative, which aims to “implement projects in developing countries, especially African countries.
