CAIRO – 18 July 2017: Two leaders affiliated to the Hasm terrorist group, convicted of assassinating Nasr City Criminal Court President Counselor Ahmed Abo Al Fotouh, were killed during a security operation on Tuesday according to the Ministry of Interior.

“The terrorists were involved in other terrorist plans which targeted many places in the past,” a statement by the Interior Ministry read.

On July 12, a top Hasm group leader was killed in a police shootout at Marg district, northeast of Cairo. Based on confirmed information about the militants whereabouts received by the National Security Department, security forces conducted a raid in the terrorist hideout where they seized a large number of rifles, firebird shots, and ammunition.

The terrorist, named Ahmed Mohamed Omar Sweillam, is believed to be involved in attacks on security forces, including the killing of four policemen and soldiers, the statement added.

Hasm is an armed group affiliated with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood. They announced their responsibility for a number of terrorist attacks that took place in Egypt during the past period. On June 19, the terrorist group said in a statement published on its Facebook page that they take responsibility for the killing of two police officers.

The terrorists targeted a Central Security Forces (CSF) vehicle on the Autostrad Road near the Cairo suburb of Maadi. Four security personnel were also injured.
