CAIRO - 21 May 2023: Egypt welcomed on Sunday the Sudanese warring factions' signing of a seven-day ceasefire agreement in Jeddah.

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid tweeted that relief operations needs a safe environment even if it was for a week.

He hoped the truce will be extended until a lasting and comprehensive agreement is reached.

The Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) agreed to a seven-day short-term ceasefire and humanitarian arrangements that go into effect on Monday.

The agreement is part of the ongoing Saudi-US efforts to end the political crisis that has crippled Sudan since April 15 due to a power struggle between both groups.
