CAIRO – 13 May 2023: Students whose university study in Ukraine, Russia or Sudan for this academic year 2022/2023 has been interrupted and departed for Egypt over the ongoing clashes have started applying to Egyptian universities on Saturday.

Students returning from the three countries are able to apply for the Egyptian non-profit and private universities via these universities’ websites. However, they cannot apply to Egyptian public universities, according to a statement by the Ministry of Higher Education today.

Students transferring to Egyptian universities have to be returning from one of the three countries and carrying documents proving their existence in these countries throughout the period of their study.

Moreover, these students will also have to submit documents explaining their curriculums that they have studies during their university years.

Students of universities accredited by the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities will be able to transfer to the Egyptian universities. Those of non-accredited universities have to undergo a number of examinations.

However, students in preparatory years of their college in one of the three countries will not be able to transfer to the Egyptian universities unless their colleges are accredited.

Egypt had around 10,000 citizens in Sudan, including around 5,000 students, when the clashes broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in April.

So far, Egypt has evacuated around more than 7,800 of its citizens from Sudan, according to figures by the Egyptian Ministry of Emigration.
