CAIRO - 2 May 2023: The Fisheries Branch in the Red Sea begins implementing the decision to stop fishing in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Suez, Aqaba, Hurghada and its islands.
 
The suspension of fishing with the chanchola system, is scheduled to start Tuesday and to last until next October 4.
 
Traction fishing takes place from May 15th to September 15th, and motorized fishing gear with a fixed motor from June 1st to September 15th.
 
It is also prohibited to fish in the Red Sea outside the Gulf of Suez by trawling from June 1 to September 10, chanchola craft from May 2 to September 4, hooks and other crafts from June 1 to July 31, provided that all boats authorized to operate outside the Gulf, will return to the port of arrival before the stopping time specified for each craft.
 
Officials of the Fish Wealth Authority warned that fishermen violating the suspension system, will have their boat license halted for a period of two months, in addition to confiscating their fishing equipment.
