CAIRO – 29 April 2023: Pope Tawadros II, the head of Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church, said that the number of Coptic Christians in Egypt is estimated at 15 million Copts.

“We are in Egypt approximately 105 million Egyptians, of whom 15 million are Copts, and [there is] about 2 million Copts live abroad in about 100 countries,” he said in a meeting with reporters at the new administrative headquarters of the Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Abbassyia.

He added that the number of the Copts in Egypt include all he sects of Christianity, Al Masry Al Youm reported.

The government of Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has considerably attempted to reinstate and protect many of Christians’ rights in Egypt. To begin with representatives of the three present Christian sects attended and participated in the drafting of the constitution in 2014. To that end, several articles were drafted in the constitution to ensure Christians’ position in the country and to secure them.
