CAIRO – 27 April 2023:  Egypt's public prosecution on Thursday ordered that three people be held in custody for harassing a foreigner in downtown Cairo.

The public prosecution's office received a video on Tuesday in which the trio appeared while harassing the foreign woman as she was walking in downtown Cairo. In the clip she angrily tried to stop them from annoying her but to no avail.

The prosecution asked police investigators to identify the three assaulters who were later detained for questioning.

The young men admitted to having verbally and physically assaulted the victim, saying they were just trying to have fun.

The police searched the attackers' belongings and found video shots of the harassment incident on one of their phones.

The prosecution ordered them to be jailed pending further investigations and they were referred to the forensic medicine department to check whether they are drug addicts or not.
