CAIRO- 10 April 2023: Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church will celebrate Easter on April 15, which comes after the Holy Week at the end of the 55-day period of Lent.

The Orthodox Church started Last February the Great Lent, which lasts for 55 days and ends by Easter, as it held masses and prayers at various churches nationwide.

Pope Tawadros II of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, members of the Holy Synod and top bishops led Monday masses at various churches.

Earlier on April, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has sent Presidential Secretary Hossam Zaatar to extend Easter greetings to the Armen Catholic community and attend the celebration on this occasion.

The Orthodox, the Evangelical, and the Catholic churches have all announced holding the Easter masses on 15 April this year.

Easter, aka Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian celebration commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, according to the Christian belief.

The Church issued its instructions regarding the arrangements for the prayers for the Easter Mass on the evening of Saturday, April 15, at St. Mark's Cathedral in Abbasiya, which included:
