CAIRO - 6 April 2023: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population issued important advice on the uses of antibiotics, as it advised not to take antibiotics in cases of cold and flu.

The Ministry of Health and Population said antibiotics are used to kill bacteria or stop their growth, while flu is caused by viruses.

The Ministry of Health and Population said that the overuse of antibiotics increases the chances of the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The Ministry of Health and Population had announced a number of common errors in the use of antibiotics, which lead to antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The ministry also indicated that the wrong use of antibiotics includes the following:

- When you stop taking the antibiotic after the symptoms improve, and before the period specified by the doctor.

- When you use less or more dose than you should.

- When you use antibiotics for longer than prescribed by the doctor.

- When you use antibiotics without consulting a doctor.

- When you use antibiotics that were prescribed to another person, or for another condition that had the same symptoms previously.
