Egypt to implement extensive medical examination to detect chest diseases

CAIRO - 27 March 2023: Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, chaired the "Lung Health" forum, which was held in cooperation with an institution to discuss the plan to expand services for chest diseases and lung health.
 
The Minister of Health stressed that interest in chest diseases and lung health begins with prevention and early detection, especially among the groups most vulnerable to infection with these diseases, indicating that "lung health" is among the priorities of the Ministry's work agenda, and one of the most important presidential initiatives that are being prepared to be launched soon.
 
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, indicated that the minister directed the need to prepare for an extensive medical survey to detect chest and lung diseases to establish an integrated database on which the necessary measures and decisions are taken.
 
This move aims to expand the services provided to protect the groups most vulnerable to the lung diseases, and treat those with chest diseases, according to the latest diagnostic methods and treatment protocols.
 
Abdul Ghaffar added that the minister noted the need to intensify campaigns to educate people with chest diseases on ways of prevention and correct practices to avoid the occurrence of serious pathological complications, as well as educating young people, especially smokers, on the importance of preserving lung integrity, and introducing them to the dangers of chest diseases.
 
For his part, Dr. Hossam Hosni, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Medical Specialties, reviewed the future plan to expand the services of chest diseases. He also reviewed the training provided to doctors who joined the Egyptian fellowship in the specialty of chest diseases, and the rates of demand for doctors to join that fellowship.
