Speaker of Libyan parliament praises Egypt’s stance against foreign interference

CAIRO – 18 March 2023: Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives Aguila Saleh, on Saturday, praised Egypt’s firm stance towards the legitimacy of representing the Libyan people, preserving the unity of Libya, and holding presidential and parliamentary elections in order to fulfill the will of the Libyan people.

 

He also lauded Egypt’s clear position that totally rejecting foreign interference in Libya, according to a statement issued by his media office.

 

He thanked and appreciated President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Egyptian government and the people for standing by Libya and its people.

 

Two days ago, UN Security Council praised the role played by Egypt in facilitating the talks in Cairo between the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State.

 

In a statement, of which Youm7 obtained a copy, the international organization welcomed the gradual progress that has been made regarding the constitutional framework for elections and the 13th amendment to the Constitutional Declaration.

 

The amendment, which includes 34 articles, defines the government’s new system and the tasks of the elected president and premier as Libya aims to hold its long-awaited presidential and parliamentary elections, which were scheduled for December 2021 as per an UN-sponsored plan.

 

The new amendment also defines the powers and tasks of the legislative authority.
