CAIRO - 16 March 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry made a phone call Thursday to his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos inviting him to visit Cairo soon.

The call also tackled regional and international issues of mutual concern. In that context, the two ministers agreed on maintaining consultations in the coming period, lauding the strength of strategic bilateral relations.

The last visit by a Cypriot foreign minister took place in May where minister Shokry stated in a joint press conference that Egypt and Cyprus would continue to coordinate and consult on the situation in Libya, the Palestinian Cause and activation of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum.

The Egyptian minister praised the role of Cyprus in strengthening relations between Egypt and the European Union, saying “Cyprus is working to convey the Egyptian point of view to its European brothers.”

In turn, Former Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides expressed his country's desire to strengthen relations with Egypt, as well as relations among the three countries Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.

Kasoulides said that Egypt played an important role in Libya to establish security and stability and exerts positive efforts in the Palestinian Cause, especially in the Gaza Strip. He similarly commended the country for hosting COP 27 in November.
