Egyptian president holds meeting on food security

CAIRO – 7 March 2023: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi held a meeting Tuesday with officials on food security instructing the expansion of food processing in order to shield citizens against the dire consequences of the successive global crises.

The meeting included Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli; Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali al-Moselhy; Chairman of the Armed Forces Financial Agency Major-General Ahmed al-Shazly; Chairman of the National Services Projects Organization Major-General Walid Abou El Magd; and Chairman of Silo Foods Major-General Taymour Mousa.

According to the presidency's press statement, the meeting tackled the executive status of Qaha and Edfina companies specialized in food industries as well as the workflow at Silo Foods.

President Sisi inaugurated in February the second phase of Silo Foods in El-Sadat Industrial City located in Menoufia governorate.

Silo Foods lies over an area of 346 square kilometers and includes a number of food factories that use the latest global technologies. The city also includes 14 grain silos and a complex for printing environmentally friendly product packaging.

Sisi inaugurated the mega food industries complex in August 2021 with the aim of providing school meals for millions of students nationwide.
