CAIRO – 20 February 2023: An Egyptian ship loaded with about 500 tons of relief materials to help deal with earthquake effects and support relief effort arrived at Lattakia port on Monday, according to Syrian news agency [SANA].

The aid will be delivered to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) to distribute it to the areas affected by the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syrian, on February6 causing thousands of deaths and injuries.

On February 8, five military planes loaded with “large quantities” of medicine and medical supplies have arrived in Turkey and Syria after the devastating earthquake that struck the two countries, the Armed Forces’ spokesman said in a statement.

The planes took off from the East Cairo Air Base loaded with urgent aid provided by the Ministry of Health to the peoples of the two countries to help them alleviate the effects of the devastating quake, the spokesman said.

The officials of the two countries have hailed Egypt’s efforts and support that the Egyptian government provides to control the worsening situation as a result of the quake, the spokesman said.

The Egyptian support provided to the Turkish and Syrian sides is an affirmation of the importance of humanitarian support to confront the incidents of natural phenomena,” the statement said.

“This contributes to strengthening interdependence and brotherhood relations between peoples to overcome adversity,” the statement added.

Egypt’s Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended condolences to each of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar El-Asad, affirming Egypt’s readiness to provide support to the peoples of both countries.
