Egypt, Moroccan FMs talk about bilateral ties, situations in Libya and Palestine

CAIRO – 17 February 2023: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 42nd session of the Executive Council of the African Union in Addis Ababa on Friday.

 

The Egyptian Minister assured Egypt's keenness to continue strengthening its bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Morocco, which was appreciated by Minister Bourita, stressing the depth of the relationship between the two countries, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid.

 

Both Ministers tackled a number of topics and issues on the agenda of the African Union summit and ways to enhance collective action on the continent level.

 

The current developments in Libya were also discussed as Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs reviewed his country’s efforts in terms of advancing a political solution to the crisis, especially through the constitutional path between the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of the State, with the aim of holding presidential and legislative elections simultaneously.

 

For his part, the Moroccan Foreign Minister affirmed support for the current path to hold elections, with the need to respect the will of the Libyans and the Libyan-Libyan solution without any external dictates.

 

The current developments in the Palestinian territories were also discussed, and the importance of working to calm the situation, with the aim of reviving the political process and leading to a two-state solution in accordance with the decisions of international legitimacy.
