CAIRO – 12 February 2023: The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources revealed in a press statement Sunday that the total length of canals lined had amounted to 6,648 kilometers, and that tenders would be invited soon for lining 1,664 others.

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated in a November report that the government targets to finish the lining of 20,000 kilometers of canals by mid-2024.

The ministry revealed that – at the time - 30 percent of the target had been already accomplished with a total of 4,532 kilometers at a budget of LE12 billion. Of those, 1,500 kilometers were located in the villages of Decent Life initiative, and the value of their lining was LE6.8 billion.

The report showcased that LE16 billion have been allocated to complete the lining of 5,759 kilometers in FY2022/2023. As such, the progress rate will hit 59 percent by July.
