CAIRO – 6 February 2023: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry will receive on Tuesday European Union Envoy to the Middle East Peace Process Sven Koopmans in Cairo.

Shoukry will also hold talks with Abdullah Batili, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

The top Egyptian diplomat will also hold a meeting with ambassadors of Latin American countries.

The EU envoy to the Middle East peace process is concerned with providing an active contribution to the settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on the two-state solution.

Over the past weeks, Egypt has called for de-escalation between both the Palestinian and Israeli sides amid Israeli violence and escalation, especially in the West Bank.

Egypt has also called for the need to revive the peace process between both sides in order to reach a fair and comprehensive solution to the long-standing crisis that meets the legitimate needs of the Palestinians and ensure stability in the region.

Egypt also discussed the Palestinian-Israeli conflict with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who visited Egypt late in January as part of his trip to Cairo, West Bank, and Israel.

In a meeting with Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, Blinken said Washinton relies on the close coordination with Egypt to restore stability, achieve calm, and contain the situation between the Palestinian and Israeli sides within the framework of Egypt-US strategic relations.

Sisi affirmed to Blinken the need for immediate work on the political and security tracks to calm and contain the situation in the Palestinian lands.

He also affirmed the need to work on curbing unilateral measures by each of the Israeli and Palestinian sides.

Sisi stressed Egypt’s stance on the need to reach a fair and comprehensive solution that ensures the rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with international references in a way that resolves this pivotal issue in the region and opens the horizons for peace, stability, cooperation, and construction.
