CAIRO – 5 February 2023: Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Osama Abdel Khaleq met with United Nations Police Adviser Faisal Shahkar for the first time since his appointment in October at the Department of Peace Operations (DOP).

The meeting tackled ways of consolidating the performance of police elements at peacekeeping missions. In that context, the Egyptian ambassador presented the role of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding in Africa (CCCPA) in delivering training programs for personnel involved in those missions.

In a September meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Egypt is committed to backing the United Nations' peacekeeping and peace-building role, and actively participating in peacekeeping operations in conflict-hit regions,.

Shoukry also reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting and honoring the objectives of the United Nations Charter.

The two sides discussed the outcomes of the high-level meetings of the UNGA 77, and the role the UN is expected to play to ensure that all states adhere to the rules of international law, and to fulfill peoples' aspirations without any discrimination, Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abou Zeid said in a statement.

On his side, Guterres hailed Egypt's important role in advancing multilateralism, especially within the framework of regional groups and groupings of developing nations, such as the G-77 + China.
