CAIRO – 2 February 2023: Egypt's permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York has received the presidency of the African Group in New York for the month of February 2023, following the end of the Senegalese presidency of the group for January 2023.

“Egypt's presidency of the group comes within the framework of the active role played by Egypt in terms of supporting and strengthening the presence and interaction of the African continent in the various fields of work of the United Nations, and advancing the interests of the continent and its people, especially in priority issues,” said Ambassador Osama Abdel-Khalek, Egypt's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York.

Abdel-Khalek also highlighted Egypt’s role in peacekeeping, peace-building, development, confronting climate change, and others

The African Group has a number of major commitments over the coming period, as the month of February witnesses a number of important meetings at the United Nations, including the Sustainable Development Goals Summit, and the Future Summit.
