Government approves using Egypt’s Tahrir Complex building as hotel

CAIRO – 31 January 2023: Egypt’s Supreme Council for Planning and Urban Development approved on Tuesday the request submitted by the Sovereign Fund for Investment and Development, regarding changing the use of the Tahrir Complex building, to be turned into a hotel, as well as the former Ministry of Interior building, to become an integrated service complex.

These decisions were announced during a ministerial meeting that was chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli for the Supreme Council of Planning and Urban Development to discuss a number of topics related to urban development.

Cabinet Spokesman Nader Saad said the meeting tackled a number of issues pertaining to construction rules and requirements, land use and replanning of some areas.

A number of decisions were approved during the meeting, with a view to maximizing the benefit from state-owned property and realizing best usage of the country’s assets, added the spokesman.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Said and Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Essam el-Gazzar took part in the meeting, among others
