CAIRO - 12 January 2023: Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Egypt and UN Special Envoy on Financing 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, has been elected as chairman of Middle East Economic Association (MEEA) that was established in the US in 1978.

Mohieldin has been elected with a new board after the end of the term of Dr Wassim Shahin, Dean of Management Faculty, Lebanese American University in Beirut.

Mohieldin became the 13th chairman of MEEA that gathers number of eminent economists, professors and research institutions experts that are specialized in different aspects of Middle East Economies, beside young economists from worldwide universities and research centers.

The association aims to support scientific research in the field of economy and increasing scientific cooperation between scientific research institutions and Middle East Economies specialists. It also pays great attention to economic researchers and promising experts through its annual conferences and awarding annual prize after the name of "Ibn Khaldun".

The association is holding two annual conferences, the first one conducted alongside the annual meeting of Social Science Alliance and the American Economic Association, while the second one is the international conference that takes place alternately in one of Middle East and North Africa countries.
