CAIRO - 17 July 2017: The Arab League Council on Monday held a consultative meeting at the level of permanent delegates to discuss the latest developments in the Yemeni crisis.

The meeting is chaired by Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit.

UN Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed will brief the Arab delegates on the latest developments of the Yemeni crisis and the outcome of his recent contacts to work out a peaceful solution to the long-standing conflict.

The Arab League chief asserted at the onset of the session that discussions will be held behind closed doors to allow the UN envoy give detailed overview on the recent developments in Yemen.

The consultative meeting was preceded by a tete-a-tete meeting between the UN envoy and Abul Gheit who was briefed on the international envoy's efforts to settle the crisis.

During the meeting, Abul Gheit asserted that Arab League stances as per the Yemeni crisis are "firm" and comply with the relevant resolutions issued during the recent Arab Summit held in Amman in March.
