CAIRO – 10 January 2023: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El Said stated Monday at the Senate that the government had built and renovated 40 applied technology schools, noting that the target for 2030 is 100 schools of the sort, with a total capacity of 130,000 students.

As for technology universities, three have already been finished, and those are located in New Cairo, Menoufeya's Qouesna, and Beni Suef. There are six others, with a total capacity of 22,500 students, that are still under construction. Those are located in 6th of October City, New Asyut, Luxor's New Teba, East Port Said, Gharbia's Samanoud, and Alexandria's Borg Al Arab.

The deputy minister of education and technical education stated in January 2022 that less than 10 percent of the 40,000 candidates, who had applied to join applied technology schools, got admitted.

At the time, the number of those schools was just 28, growing from 11 in 2019. What is distinct about applied technology schools is that they offer modern technical education and set the maximum number of students per classroom at 25.
