CAIRO – 7 January 2023: Cairo International Airport received on Friday two charter flights from South Korean airlines as South Korea has resumed charter flights to the Egyptian capital.

The first flight, operated by Asiana Airlines, came from Seoul with 295 passengers onboard, while the second flight was operated by Korean Air.

In November, South Korea’s Ambassador to Egypt Hong Jin Wook affirmed plans for Korean Air and Asiana Airlines to operate charter flights during January and February 2023.

In a meeting with Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Abbas Helmy, Ambassador Wook said that the Korean Embassy will provide full support to facilitate talks to resume direct flights between the two countries.

For the first time in 8 years, South Korea has eased travel advisory to Egypt last August, paving the way for a potential increase in the number of Korean tourists to Egypt.

Ambassador Wook said he is looking forward to continuing discussions with the Egyptian side on ways of cooperation to activate people to people exchange between the two countries, including strengthening security measures to ensure the safety of tourists.
