CAIRO - 31 December 2022: The Nuclear Materials Authority of the Ministry of Electricity was able to break into the field of manufacturing pure silicon, where the authority manufactured, for the first time, an electronic chip, starting from pure quartz ore.

Dr. Ayman Hamza, spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, explained that the Nuclear Materials Authority participated in the work group tasked with preparing studies for the localization of technology and manufacturing of photovoltaic panels and semiconductors (electronic chips), starting from ore.

Hamza explained that the authority has succeeded in achieving many achievements through its active contribution to many national projects with regard to its important role in the Egyptian peaceful nuclear program, especially the nuclear fuel cycle. During this period, the authority was able to accomplish many important steps in the fields of exploration, mining and extraction of nuclear ores.

Hamza added that technical and economic feasibility studies have been conducted to exploit the deposits of black sand and its economic minerals on the northern coast of Egypt, and to participate in the establishment of the Egyptian Black Sand Company in cooperation with the National Service Agency, in addition to developing the capabilities of black sand ore by discovering new presences on the Mediterranean coast and the sea coast.

Hamza added that a partnership was established between the Nuclear Materials Authority and the Egyptian Company for Black Sands to exploit the ores of the Rashid-Idku region, the product of dredging Lake Manzala and the product of the purification of Damietta port, to establish units to raise the added value of ores.

Hamza pointed out that the authority conducted aerial and ground survey studies to explore the aquifer, determine the validity of the soil in the area of the national project "cultivating 19 thousand acres" in the New Valley Governorate.

He added that a center for processing and interpreting aerial geophysical survey data has been established, which is the first center of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East region. The center contributes to the interpretation of survey data and the identification of areas of mineralization and surface geological structures.
