CAIRO - 27 December 2022: Legal Consultant to Minister of Manpower Ehab Abdel Aty stated Tuesday that the number of irregular workers in Egypt ranges between 10 million and 11 million, pointing out that only three million are registered in the government's database.

Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saafan announced in March that the value of accident/life insurance had been raised from LE100,000 to LE200,000.

The minister added that the target number of beneficiaries has also been increased from 250,000 to 500,000 irregular workers.

The insurance covers permanent injury and death, and the sum varies according to the type of the consequence of the accident, whether it is partial disability, total disability, or loss of life.

Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine al-Qabaj had stated irregular workers contribute by 40 percent in the country's GDP. Those are concentrated in the sectors of transportation, constructions, agriculture, fishing, baking, and pedestrian vendors.
