27 basketball fans injured in a partial collapse of sports stadium in Cairo

CAIRO – 24 December 2022: Seventy-two fans were injured in a partial collapse of a sports stadium in the 6th of October city, Cairo, during a basketball game, the Egyptian Ministry of Health said in a statement.
 
 
The Ministry added that 21 ambulances were dispatched this evening to the site of the collapse of a sports stadium in Dr. Hassan Mostafa Hall, in the 6th of October City.
 
 
The injured citizens suffered fractures and bleeding, most of which were non-life-threatening injuries. Eighteen of them were transferred to the 6th of October Central Hospital, while the other 9 injured were transferred to Sheikh Zayed Specialist Hospital.
 
 
The basketball game was between Alexandria's Al Ittihad and Cairo's Al Ahly. The Egyptian basketball federation canceled the match after the players rejected to continue the game due to the incident. Local media reported that the players rushed to rescue the injured fans.
