CAIRO – 19 December 2022: Egypt released 145,00 tons of soybeans and corn required for pourtly fodder, in cooperation with the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), said Al-Sayyed Al Qusseir, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, on Sunday in a statement.

“Over the past week, 145,000 tons of corn and soybeans were released, worth about $70 million,” he said.

He explained that the release included 99,000 tons of corn, at about $36 million, and about 46,000 tons of soybeans, at a value of about $32 million, as well as feed additives at about $2 million.

So far, the total tons during the period from October 16 to December 15 2022, reached 1.255 million tons, including 825,000 tons of corn, 430,000 tons of soybeans and feed additives, with a total amount of $ 632 million, he said.

Since October, the country has suffered a shortage in feed nationwide, which led some of the workers in farms to execute chicks. Footage showing the execution of chicks circulated on social media has stirred anger among people. Afterward, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said that there will cooperation with the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) to speed up the release of the largest possible amount of feed to support the pourtly industry.
